Gracie loves to play dress-up. Her favorite things are shoes, purses and jewelry. When her Aunt Angie came to visit we took Gracie to Target. While Angie was shopping for groceries I took Gracie to the children's section. As soon as I approached a rack of swim suits reached out to a pink swim suit that looked like a tu-tu and said....CUTE! So, I had to buy it for her. I also bought her some play jewelry and she loved it! The picture says it all about Gracie being a girly girl! She is so much fun!!

Papaw, Meemaw and Jonah Wheeling Around Corte Bella

We asked Jonah to spend the night with us. He asked again if he could spend two nights. He promised he would be really good. I asked him why he liked to spend the night with us. He said because we let him watch TV before he goes to sleep, and wanted to stay up late tonight....as late as adults do. And sure enough, although we put him to bed at 8:00, he didn't go to sleep until 10:00.

Jonah wanted to know what color my hair was when I was a little girl. I told him it was blond like his. He said he didn't remember because he wasn't even made yet.
At dinner he asked me if I had a picture of my house I lived in when I was little.
Not sure why all of the sudden he is asking questions about when I was a little girl.

Saturday morning Jonah and his Papaw went to Safeway to get a sprinkled donut. When they got back they trimmed flowers in the backyard. Jonah came in the house three different times bringing me a flower each time. He asked me to put them in water and keep them forever. Jonah said he was doing really nice things for me today.

He worked in the golf cart garage with Papaw for an hour or so. I went in the garage to check on them. Jonah had on plastic protective glasses and was using an electric screwdriver working on a project with Papaw. I asked if he was ready to go home. He said, no he was working on a project. He told me he wasn't a quiter, he was a jerk! I laughed and asked Jonah if he knew what a jerk meant. He first said yes, then paused and said not really. I explained to him that a jerk wasn't a very nice person and actly really badly. Oh...I'm not a quiter, I'm a winner!

Jonah brought his Big Wheel with him. So after lunch we got our bikes out and went for a ride with Jonah. It was another beautiful day in Arizona, and we had such a good time watching him pedal his Big Wheel really really fast! When we got home it was almost 1:30. He said he guessed he was ready to go home. I think he was tired. On the way home he kept nodding off. When I would say something to him, he would pop his head up and say I'm not tired I'm just looking out the window. When we were almost to his house he had dozed off again. I told him he needed to wake up. He said, I'm not sleeping...I'm just being really quite in case Gracie is sleeping! Funny, we weren't at his house yet!

Gracie was excited to see him when he came home!

MeeMaw & Gracie - Playing, Strolling & Visting With Friends

Now when I pick up Gracie we all walk outside together. She will go to my car and climb in without any tears!

When we got to the house I placed some plastic Easter egss into a wire basket and gave them to Gracie. She spent the first hour taking the eggs apart, putting them back together and then throwing them in the basket. When she got all the eggs in the basket she would dump them on the floor and do it all over again. Who said you have to buy your grandchildren expensive toys to entertain them.

She ate left over pizza, cheese cubes and apple slices for lunch while she sat in her Papaw's chair watching Miss Spider on TV.

After lunch I took Gracie for a ride in her stroller. We've had a lot of rain (for Arizona) so the flowers are in full bloom. Gracie enjoyed seeing the flowers and she would sniff the air and laugh.

Later that day we went to visit Joy & Darrell. They are our good friends and live two doors down the street from us. When Darrell met us in their courtyard he picked up Gracie and she didn't like that one bit. She cried and held out her arms for me to take her. We went out outside to see their grandson's toy house. Gracie wouldn't go in the playhouse. So, I went in and sat on the floor. She finally came in and sat in my lap. Joy popped two puppets through the windows of the playhouse and said hi to Gracie. Gracie appeared to be calmer. However, when I wanted to leave the playhouse she didn't want to get out of my lap. I thought we were stuck there for the day. Joy told Gracie she had something for her to eat if she would come inside the house.

Joy went into the kitchen and brought out a M&M toy candy dispenser. Gracie took some candy and started to get quite happy. She warmed up to Joy and Darrell even more when Darrell got out an antimated animal book. When Darrell pushed the button next to the animal, the animal made a sound. Gracie would giggle and repeat the sound. As we started to leave I asked Gracie to tell Joy thank you for the candy. She thanked Joy and gave her a hug and kiss. She told them bye bye several times. I think the next time she will warm up to them faster. It's almost 2:00 and she has been down for a nap for about thirty minutes. I hope she has a good nap until her Daddy picks her up at 3:00.

A Not So Fun Day

I went to the doctor with Becky, Jonah and Gracie on Tuesday. Jonah is starting kindergarten in the fall and needed four immunizations. Gracie only needed one immunization.

They had a good time playing in the waiting room. But when they called them to go back for their appointment Jonah looked apprehensive. Gracie didn't have a clue and was still laughing. She really put on a show for the Dr. He announced she had passed her tests..he could tell she was very social.

Jonah was so good for the first part of the doctor's visit being really still while the dr checked him over. When the doctor asked him to take a deep breathe and let it out, he gladly did it and looked so proud of himself. But he knew he was going to get a shot and kept asking the doctor about it. He told him the nurse would give him the shots.

Then the nurse came in. Dum dee dum dum....she had four syringes and laid them on the examination table next to Jonah. Isn't that an awful thing to do! I wanted to cry myself. Bless his heart, he told her he really really didn't like shots and started crying. I was glad that I had to take Gracie out of the room before I started crying myself.
I could hear him crying and saying it hurt.

Then it was Gracie's turn. The good news was she didn't know what to expect. So, before she knew what was going on the shot was over.

I enjoy being with Jonah & Gracie, but today I would rather have been somewhere else!!

President's Day - Grandkid's Day

Although it was President's Day we had more to celebrate! After Bob and I went to a movie and lunch we drove to Michael & Becky's to pick up Jonah. When we starting walking to the car with Jonah, Gracie followed us and climbed in our car! She wanted to go with us!!!! The last time I took her home with us she cried when her mom buckled her into the car seat. This was a moment to celebrate!!!

So we took both Gracie and Jonah home with us. For most of the drive to our house she was talking to Bob from the backseat. She would say Papaw and starting jibbering. Then she would laugh and laugh. She had a lengthy conversation with her Papaw and seemed to enjoy it. Of course, Bob didn't have a clue what she was saying. He did understand she was saying his name over and over and that made him smile ALL the way home.

We had a great time playing with Jonah & Gracie outside. Jonah helped Papaw measure the air in the tires on his mom's car. He also let some air out of the tires on Papaw's golf cart. He loves to work in the golf cart garage and help his Papaw with projects. It was 78 degrees and a beautiful President's/Grandkid's Day!

Our Two Special Blessings

I turned 60 last August and couldn't believe it came so quickly! So, I decided to start journaling about the time we spend with our two grandchildren , Jonah & Gracie. I want to remember all the precious things they do and say. Since I've already retired I get to spend more time with them than their Papaw.

So here goes........

A morning with Gracie

Last Friday I picked up Gracie to bring her to our house while Becky was giving violin lessons in their home. Gracie will be 2 in July and for the last month has been clinging to her mom for dear life. If Becky is in the room you won't get Gracie's attention. I was concerned when Becky was putting Gracie in her car seat . She was kicking and screaming, Gracie, not Becky. The good news is that when we rounded the corner and I turned on the radio Gracie immediately stopped crying.

When we arrived at our house she walked into the house and the first thing she said was "oh no". She went directly to the closet where we keep the toys and started pulling every toy out of the basket. We ate lunch standing at the kitchen counter. I was leaning over the counter snacking on an apple and cheese. Gracie was standing on the step stool next to me saying yummmm. I found out she gets in a very good mood when she is eating. I even got a couple of messy kisses while she was eating. She was a sweetheart the rest of the time and the four hours went by very quickly. Hopefully, the next time she won't cry when she leaves her mom.

A weekend with Jonah

After I took Gracie home I picked up Jonah from pre-school. He will be 5 in July and is so smart. They had a valentine party at school and he was so excited when I picked him up. He was also excited about spending the night with us. He asked me if he could stay two nights. He said he wanted to stay until the sun came up the next morning and then again when the sun went down. We had plans for Saturday evening so he was unable to stay two nights. He did stay until around 3:00 the next day and still wasn't ready to go home.

Friday afternoon when we got home I decided to do my back exercises. I got out my stretch bands and large exercise ball to start exercising. Before I knew it Jonah had pretty much taken over. He told me he was the gym instructor. He showed me what I needed to do with the exercise ball. He would bounce it off the door to the wall and around the room. If I didn't do it right, Jonah would say "Meemaw, I'm going to show you again now watch carefully". He praised me when I did as he instructed. We laughed a lot and had such a good time.

After Papaw came home and took us to McDonald's for dinner we brought in the roll away bed. Jonah always sleeps at the foot of our bed on the roll away. We turned on cartoons and tucked him in . He told me to ask Papaw not to snore so he wouldn't keep him up. I went to the front bedroom to watch TV so he could setttle down. He came into my room about 30 minutes later and asked me to come to the bedroom and watch cartoons with him. So, I got up and went to our bedroom. When I laid down next to him told me he loved me very much. My heart melted.

The next morning Papaw got up to go play golf. I was planning to make pancakes. Jonah didn't get up until after 7:30. He decided he wanted Mac & Cheese! Since it wasn't candy or sugar coated cereal I thought why not, so I fixed Mac & Cheese (Kraft's). After breakfast I told Jonah I needed to go to the mall and take Gracie's shoes back and asked if he wanted go with me. He said he would like to go and look at stuff. When we arrived at the mall I parked by Dillards. As we entered into the store, Jonah commented that the Dillard's store was a fancy place. Jonah played at the children's play area for a while. We ate lunch at the food court. We had some leftovers that I was going to take home for him to eat later. I asked if he was ready to go and he said that he would like to stay at the mall and visit a little longer...so we did. When we were ready to go I was gathering up the leftovers. He said, "Meemaw, did you know that you can make compost from left over food, you feed it to the plants". When I told him he was smart, he said he liked being smart....smart was good. He was so sweet that day and thanked me for lunch and was on his best behavior. When left the mall I asked Jonah if he had a good time. He said he had a really really good day! Me too!!
