Gracie loves to play dress-up. Her favorite things are shoes, purses and jewelry. When her Aunt Angie came to visit we took Gracie to Target. While Angie was shopping for groceries I took Gracie to the children's section. As soon as I approached a rack of swim suits reached out to a pink swim suit that looked like a tu-tu and said....CUTE! So, I had to buy it for her. I also bought her some play jewelry and she loved it! The picture says it all about Gracie being a girly girl! She is so much fun!!

Our Two Special Blessings

I turned 60 last August and couldn't believe it came so quickly! So, I decided to start journaling about the time we spend with our two grandchildren , Jonah & Gracie. I want to remember all the precious things they do and say. Since I've already retired I get to spend more time with them than their Papaw.

So here goes........

A morning with Gracie

Last Friday I picked up Gracie to bring her to our house while Becky was giving violin lessons in their home. Gracie will be 2 in July and for the last month has been clinging to her mom for dear life. If Becky is in the room you won't get Gracie's attention. I was concerned when Becky was putting Gracie in her car seat . She was kicking and screaming, Gracie, not Becky. The good news is that when we rounded the corner and I turned on the radio Gracie immediately stopped crying.

When we arrived at our house she walked into the house and the first thing she said was "oh no". She went directly to the closet where we keep the toys and started pulling every toy out of the basket. We ate lunch standing at the kitchen counter. I was leaning over the counter snacking on an apple and cheese. Gracie was standing on the step stool next to me saying yummmm. I found out she gets in a very good mood when she is eating. I even got a couple of messy kisses while she was eating. She was a sweetheart the rest of the time and the four hours went by very quickly. Hopefully, the next time she won't cry when she leaves her mom.

A weekend with Jonah

After I took Gracie home I picked up Jonah from pre-school. He will be 5 in July and is so smart. They had a valentine party at school and he was so excited when I picked him up. He was also excited about spending the night with us. He asked me if he could stay two nights. He said he wanted to stay until the sun came up the next morning and then again when the sun went down. We had plans for Saturday evening so he was unable to stay two nights. He did stay until around 3:00 the next day and still wasn't ready to go home.

Friday afternoon when we got home I decided to do my back exercises. I got out my stretch bands and large exercise ball to start exercising. Before I knew it Jonah had pretty much taken over. He told me he was the gym instructor. He showed me what I needed to do with the exercise ball. He would bounce it off the door to the wall and around the room. If I didn't do it right, Jonah would say "Meemaw, I'm going to show you again now watch carefully". He praised me when I did as he instructed. We laughed a lot and had such a good time.

After Papaw came home and took us to McDonald's for dinner we brought in the roll away bed. Jonah always sleeps at the foot of our bed on the roll away. We turned on cartoons and tucked him in . He told me to ask Papaw not to snore so he wouldn't keep him up. I went to the front bedroom to watch TV so he could setttle down. He came into my room about 30 minutes later and asked me to come to the bedroom and watch cartoons with him. So, I got up and went to our bedroom. When I laid down next to him told me he loved me very much. My heart melted.

The next morning Papaw got up to go play golf. I was planning to make pancakes. Jonah didn't get up until after 7:30. He decided he wanted Mac & Cheese! Since it wasn't candy or sugar coated cereal I thought why not, so I fixed Mac & Cheese (Kraft's). After breakfast I told Jonah I needed to go to the mall and take Gracie's shoes back and asked if he wanted go with me. He said he would like to go and look at stuff. When we arrived at the mall I parked by Dillards. As we entered into the store, Jonah commented that the Dillard's store was a fancy place. Jonah played at the children's play area for a while. We ate lunch at the food court. We had some leftovers that I was going to take home for him to eat later. I asked if he was ready to go and he said that he would like to stay at the mall and visit a little longer...so we did. When we were ready to go I was gathering up the leftovers. He said, "Meemaw, did you know that you can make compost from left over food, you feed it to the plants". When I told him he was smart, he said he liked being smart....smart was good. He was so sweet that day and thanked me for lunch and was on his best behavior. When left the mall I asked Jonah if he had a good time. He said he had a really really good day! Me too!!
